The Wisdom You Desire is Already Within: Introducing Walking with the Sage

We are living in uncertain times.

The pace of change is relentless.  The noise is deafening.  It seems like every day brings new headlines, new disruptions and new reasons to feel unsteady.

And if you're navigating a major life transition on top of it all, such as leaving a longtime career, reimagining your next chapter or trying to find solid ground in the middle of profound personal change, the external world can feel like it's working against you.

In times like these, where do you turn?

For most of our lives, we've been trained to look outward – to seek answers from experts, mentors, market trends and best practices.  We look to follow the proven path or the established blueprint.  And we routinely take the advice of those who've gone before us.

But here's what I've learned – on the trails, in the quiet of the woods, in the pages of my own journal, and in the writing of my new book:  the most reliable guidance you’ll ever receive doesn't come from the outside world.

It comes from within.  And it's been waiting for you all along.

Why Inner Wisdom Matters More Than Ever

We’re bombarded with information.  Social media tells us how to live.  News cycles tell us what to fear.  Algorithms tell us what to want.  And in the middle of a life transition, when you're already feeling unmoored and uncertain, this external noise can drown out the one voice that actually knows the way:  your own.

Your inner wisdom – the deep, quiet knowing that lives beneath the noise – doesn't waver with the news cycle.  It doesn't change with the market.  It isn't rattled by uncertainty or disrupted by change.  It's the one constant in an inconstant world.

And nature?  Nature has always known this.  Long before the noise of modern life, humans turned to the natural world for grounding, perspective and guidance.  There's a reason we feel calmer in the woods, clearer by the water, more ourselves under an open sky.  Nature quiets the external noise and opens the channel to our inner knowing.

This is the foundation of my new book, Walking with the Sage.

What is Walking with the Sage?

Walking with the Sage: A Story of Leaving Everything to Find More is a true-life fable – a story drawn from my own journey through one of the most profound transitions of my life.

It begins where perhaps you find yourself now: at the end of a successful career, standing at the threshold of something new, with more questions than answers.  The main character, a driven, accomplished executive, has done everything right.  She built the career, earned the recognition, achieved the success. And then she walked away from it all.

But leaving wasn't the hard part.  What came next was.

Because when you strip away the title, the structure and the identity that was built over decades, you're left with the most important question of your life:  Who am I now?  And how do I want to live?

These answers don't come from a strategic plan or a five-year roadmap.  They come from something far more ancient and reliable:  the wisdom and heart of your future self.

In the story, the main character discovers this wisdom through a series of conversations with a remarkable woman – her 80-year-old sage self – who connects with her on the hiking trails near her home during the isolation of the pandemic.  What unfolds is a journey of transformation, self-discovery and a homecoming – back to herself.

It's a story about leaving everything. And finding so much more.

Themes That Can Guide Your Journey

Walking with the Sage isn't just a story.  It's a map.

Throughout the book, the Sage guides the main character, and the reader, through the essential terrain of midlife transition.

Themes at the heart of the journey include:

  • The Goo.  Transformation is messy.  Before the butterfly emerges, the caterpillar dissolves into liquid – a formless, uncertain state that feels like falling apart but is actually the beginning of becoming.  It’s part of the metamorphosis.

  • The Still Point. In the heat of transition, a quiet place within remains steady.  The Sage calls it the still point – a space of calm beneath the noise where your inner wisdom lives.  Learning to access it changes everything.

  • Liminal Space.  The threshold between who you were and who you're becoming is one of the most disorienting, and sacred, places you'll ever inhabit.  The book offers guidance for navigating this in-between with grace.

  • The Warrior and the Sage.  For many of us, our inner warriors have led the way to achieve our goals.  But there's another way of living, one where your Sage takes the lead. The book explores this profound shift from doing to being and the impact of this shift.

  • The Practices.  The Sage offers practical methods for connecting with main character’s inner wisdom.  Together, they create a framework for navigating transition with intention and ease.

  • The Sage Walk.  Nature is one of the most powerful portals to inner wisdom and a catalyst for change. The book introduces the concept of the Sage Walk, an intentional practice of moving through nature to access the guidance of your Sage self.

  • Breaking Silence.  One of the most powerful themes in the book is the invitation to finally live out loud – to stop suppressing your true self and start honoring the life that's calling you forward.

  • The Heroine's Journey.  Unlike the linear Hero's Journey of quest and conquest, the Heroine's Journey is cyclical—a path of descent, integration, transformation, and return. It's not about proving yourself.  It's about becoming yourself.

Who This Book Is For

Walking with the Sage is for the professionals who have spent decades building a successful career and are now standing at the threshold of something they can't quite name.

It's for those who have done everything right and wondering why it doesn't feel like enough anymore.

It's for those who hear the whisper that something more is possible but don’t know how to find it.

It's for those who are ready to stop living by someone else's definition of success and start designing a life that's authentically theirs.

And it's for those navigating life transition in the middle of a world that feels increasingly uncertain, who need a reminder that the most reliable guidance they’ll ever receive is already inside them, waiting to be heard.

If any of this resonates, this book was written for you.

A Story Born from Real Life

I didn't set out to write a true-to-life fable.

I set out to make sense of my own transition – the disorientation, the identity loss, the unexpected grief of leaving something successful.  And the slow, messy, beautiful process of becoming someone new and welcoming possibility.

What emerged as I typed was something I couldn't have planned: a story that captured not just what happened, but what it felt like.  The confusion and the clarity.  The fear and the freedom.  The moments on the trails when the wisdom I needed arrived not from a book or a mentor, but from the quiet voice within.  And how I learned to trust that guidance like the North Star.

Writing this book was its own Sage Walk.  And sharing it with you is the gift I bring back from the Heroine’s Journey.

What's Coming Next

Walking with the Sage publishes on April 7th, and I'll be sending a special announcement that day with everything you need to get your copy.

Over the next three months, I'll be exploring the book's major themes through the lens of the story and the practices that emerged from it.  Think of it as a companion series to the book, whether you've read it or are just beginning to explore these ideas.

This is an invitation to walk with your sage self – through the pages of the book, through the themes we'll explore together, and through the wilderness of your own becoming.

The world is noisy and the path forward isn't always clear.  But your inner wisdom never wavers.

It's been waiting for you all along.

Watch for my special announcement on April 7th—that's when Walking with the Sage goes on sale!

Journal Reflections:  When you’re swirling in noise and uncertainty, where do you turn for guidance?  What question are you carrying right now that your inner wisdom might already know the answer to?  If your 80-year-old sage self could speak to you about this moment in your life, what message might she have for you?
